What liberals, progressives and social warriors fail to understand is that instead of this kind of crap evening the playing field or making society more inclusive, they’re building new divisions and playing up our aesthetic differences.

I don’t think we should throw race to the curb. Pride in your heritage is fine to a point, and race jokes are the best kind of joke, but racial tensions are greatly reduced when people stop feeling that the odds aren’t even or that any specific group is the oppressor or the oppressed. Everyone should be treated equally; society should be a meritocracy, blind to race or background. I’m of the opinion that race-based scholarships (in the U.S.) are having a negative effect on black students, in that they lower the bar and encourage black students to be more lax in their studies. By making things easier for a group and giving them handouts, you condition them to be lazier in their endeavors. The Italians and Irish eventually escaped the ghetto, so too would blacks if we took away the morphine…

I find it odd that the British have developed such a peculiarity for race. It must stem from the colonial experience. For a nation that is, what, %90 white, Britain is awfully awkward with race relations. Instead of trying to make people feel special and equally different, how about just equal? This all reminds me of an old SNL skit.
